BERTEROA

Gotta Go'a

The summer of 2025 brought dry, drought-like conditions to the county, which were especially noticeable during our community weed-pulling program. Plants were smaller than usual, and the soil was extremely dry, making weeds harder to pull. As a result, the total poundage of weeds collected was lower than in past years. These tough conditions and reduced plant growth likely also affected participation, with 38 people taking part and removing a total of 6,286 pounds of berteroa, musk thistle flowers, and cheatgrass. Even with these challenges, the program continues to be valuable by reducing seed production during the growing season and by giving community members a hands-on opportunity to learn about these plants and how to manage them.
